Problem with starpolyp

Hi all,

I have a frag of starpolyps and it was just fine a week ago, even started to grow on frag plug.
Then few days ago it just dont open at all. No recent changes in water or tank.
I found some little worm kind critters on coral and think they may be bothering it. Took my frag made a iodine dip but those worms did not die so I remove them manually. 4 in total.
Last worm was removed yesterday noon and coral still wont open.
What else should I do?

Greetings

Cool Re: Problem with starpolyp

was the worm half orange and half black?...... if so it was a bristle worm and yes they will irritate corals because they sting just a little .. they wont eat coral but can eventually kill them because they dont open... you can buy traps to get rid of them or you can just try to catch them with twesers when they come out.

Re: Problem with starpolyp

I did not take a picture of worms but they where like 1/4" lenght, white color downside with grey dots in upper side with two little antenas. They not had any spines.
I use twesers to remove all four. Coral is still closed.

Really, all you can do is give it some time. GSP can be a strange coral. It is usually very hardy but will get mad and pout for several days for no reason you can find. In some cases it will actually disolve.
On another note, bristleworms are generally considered a good part of your CUC and usually leave corals alone. Now the worms you describe, I have no idea about.

well put, I've notice my gsp get "grumpy" on a few occasions and just not open up for a few hours to a couple days. As far as worms irritating the coral, I wouldn't think bristle worms would cause the gsp to close, I've personally seen a small bristle worm camp out for a couple weeks in my gsp with the gsp not seeming to notice him at all.

Maybe they were some kind of nudibranch? If they were, you did good by removing them before they multiplied.

Re: Problem with starpolyp

Thats what I got!!!! Google it and those were nudibranches! Although not so colorfull as some pics I found.
Thanks a lot! Now I know what I was dealing with.
After removing them coral keep polyps closed about 4 or 5 days more, but know is really happy and as Brenda said, its growing!!
