Blue corals dont survive in my tank!

Ok, I have something here that is completely blowing my mind. I have been adding corals to my 75g at about 1 new one every 2 weeks. I am about where I am going to leave it to start filing in on its own. Gonna be hard to stop buying, its addictive. Anyway, something strange has been happening for a while now. Anything i put in my tank that is blue does not seem to last. I have added several different zoos and polyps of differing colors. Got reds, oranges, greens, browns, etc. All of them are doing great, but three times I have tried to add blue zoos and/or polyps and the fade away in just a matter of week. My latest was a so called fire/ice zoo frag. The reds are doing well, the blues are about half what they were 2 weeks ago. Any ideas? Have done different placements, flow, light intensity, ec. Only thing offered up is the kind of lighting, the freq. I have 3 T5 HO bulbs for my dawn/dusk and a 400W MH 20,000, for my main. Is it the color range of my lights? Only thing that we can come up with.

400Ws over a 75 is a lot of light. Is it 2-200W MHs or 1-400W? Maybe that is too much light. Try starting them on the bottom then slowly move them up over a period of weeks.

that is kinda weird. But I've noticed my blue and purple zoos are the most tempermental zoos I have. everything upsets them.

Re: Blue corals dont survive in my tank!

It is a single 400 placed almost dead center. I have tried on the bottom in the middle, bottom in the corners, mid water and out to the sides, top and out to the sides. Name a spot besides no-light and I have tried it. Tried everything from heavy direct flow to near dead water. Pretty much gonna give up on blue things. I am looking at some black/red and black/orange palys to give some color contrast in the tank.

that is a LOT of light. I'd give them a more "shaded" area and then let them alone and see what they do long term.

Good luck

with a SW set up there is one basic fundamental rule that we ALL should follow
When in doubt... wait it out. This means take it slow and let the tank "develop" and don't rush it. Time is your friend
