| Neon dottyback | Will my brain coral ever heal? I have a bright green brain coral that almost immediately begin to recede (i.e., exposing skeleton) within days of putting it in my tank. It was in a tank with MH’s, when I bought it I only had the measly 64W PC’s that come stock with an AquaPod 24. I upgraded to 150W PC’s through nanocustoms.com and that seemed to “halt” the recession of tissue. Problem is, after several months, the tissue isn’t growing back either. It seems like the tissue recession stopped and never grew back. The exposed skeleton has grown some algae on it and even a little green coralline. I tried to scrub the algae off which did nothing other than make my brain coral slime-up. After a few days the slime was gone but nothing more nothing less on the coral. To this day, the coral puffs up nicely but only in the dark, whereas my red/green open brain swells up 3x its normal size all day. Any suggestions? Will this bright green open brain eventually heal over or will it stay this way? |

| Neon dottyback | Re: Will my brain coral ever heal? Sorry about the delay, finally snapped a couple of pics. I admit they're not the best (a little fuzzy) but I think they depict the situation. As you can see, there is some green fuzzy algae on the exposed skeleton. It's not hair algae, it is very short, almost like green coraline. The white dot is a tiny snail (I have milliions ofn, they only come out at night). This pic was taken with flash about 2 hours after "lights out" (you can see a small palythoa colony that is all closed-up due to the darkness). Any thoughts/suggestions about this brain? Is it hopelessly gone beyond repair, or does it still have a chance? Thanks John |

| Brunt of all Jokes~ | Re: Will my brain coral ever heal? my experience with the greens is, they dont like bright, its opening in the dark because its feeder bits are getting crisped in the light, the two brown bits are probably burns, as its survived the tissue loss in the big area its a fighter, find a cave and put it in or put some cover over it, are those candy canes next to it/ they can pack a punch too

The brain coral has NOT been in this spot for more than a fwe days, it was actually on the sand and I just moved it for a little while. While it was on the sand it had NOTHING within "reach". I'll try shading it and see how it does. If anything, it will help to kill the green algae that has grown on the skeleton. PS - Even if the algae does NOT die, will a brain coral try to grow over it anyway? Thanx | |
