frogspawn snaped off

ok i don't think this is a problem but i just want to make sure i decided that my frogspawn since i got the new lightning wasn't happy in its spot as i moved it lower since i got the new lights so i moved it up towards the top of the tank but as i go to set the plug it sits on(its only one head) the plug snaped off the base now it looks as if maybe a tiny peice of the base had snaped off with it but nothing to noticable is it going to be ok or should i try and affix it back onto the plug?

Re: frogspawn snaped off

Unless a LOT of the hard stony base is broken (exposing the delicate flesh of the living animal) it's ok. Is it JUST the stony base or did it expose the flesh?

When these animals split (by growing in a "V" shape) we take snips and simply cut at the "V" making two from one. Just make sure it didn't damage any tissue.

Re: frogspawn snaped off

the only thing that is left on the plug looks to be only superglue...now should i try to attach the peice to a real rock cuz itsa kinda just resting in a hole right now

Re: frogspawn snaped off

You can use a small piece of epoxy and "attach" it where it is or where you like. You just want it secure so that it doesn't FALL over or get knocked OVER and damaged!

Glad that it wasn't damaged!!

Re: frogspawn snaped off

I'm glad to try and help when I can.

Yeah the more it's harassed the more retracted and the longer it will STAY retracted. Just attach it and let it alone. After all the "attention" it's gotten you may want to leave the lights off to allow it to "Pout" for a while.

Place it and forget about it

Re: frogspawn snaped off

It's Reef Epoxy but I also use "Marine Epoxy" which is less expensive. I'm off looking for the link I have for it.

Re: frogspawn snaped off

Thanks for the inspiration today. After reading this I finally went out and got some epoxy to secure a couple of my corals that were just "stuck in". It's funny though, I had a weird feeling and when I got home with the epoxy, my blasto was sitting face down in the sand. It's been stuck in the rock for 2 months and just happened to get knocked down today. No injuries though, and now everyone is secure and my fingers smell like epoxy!!

Re: frogspawn snaped off

BTW, my LFS says you can use superglue brand gel just the same.

Pull the frag out, add the gel, submerge it until if hazes over, then stick to the live rock.

I just bought a frogspawn last night. Very cool indeed. I just stuck the pipe way down into a crevace in my pukani live rock where it can't fall over. No glue.

Super glue gel is GREAT for softies but honestly for stoney's it's just not strong enough. I only use Super Glue gel for a "quick bond" to hold while the epoxy is setting up. Super Glue (Gel or not) is just not strong enough for slightly heavier corals. Hey if it works for you great and more power to ya.

Happy Reefing
