dosing question for new corals

two weeks ago i added a couple zoa frags, a gsp, yellow polyps and a paly to my tank, and just this week added a new rhodactis mushroom. i know that they are all photosynthetic, but i was reading and it says that for long term health, trace elements should be added and to supplement their feeding with brine or mysis shrimp.

i was wondering what kinds of trace elements i should be dosing and how much and how much i should be dosing shrimp (if at all) and what kind is best?

just some background: it's an 8g tank that has been running for almost 2 months, the only other livestock is CUC of 4 astra snails and 4 hermits. oh, and i use Bio-Sea salt if that makes any difference.

Re: dosing question for new corals

I wouldn't dose any elements especially if your doing weekly water changes. The phyto will be of no benefit to your corals but the zooplankton will be especially since you don't have any fish and probably have very little if any dissolved organics. I would feed Cyclop-eeze/Oyster eggs a couple of times a week and keep in mind it should be very small amounts as they will degrade your water quality quickly in such a small volume of water.

Re: dosing question for new corals

If you want to suppliment your feeding, vitamins and ameno acids are the only thing I would dose for nutrition. I use Seachem reef plus and have been for quite a few years now. I get much better growth and extension. I haven't run into any issues with it raising phosphates or nitrates and I actually have less algea issues since I started using it as well.
