Candy Canes

I know this is going to be a shot in the dark without a pic, I am trying to get 1 but I am having trouble getting a good clear one and right now I am at work. 2 days ago I noticed something on 1 of the heads of my candy canes. It looks like the top of a p...sy willow. It is oval in shape and a brownish white color. It looks like it is attached directly to the head. It's hard to get a straight on look at it since it is towards the back of my tank. I will get some type of pic up tonight but it most likely will not be clear. Does anyone have a guess at what this might be and if it is bad?

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Candy Canes

Damn Al, that just might be what it is. If not it must be it's cousin. So I try to pluck it off my coral or will I kill both? I will try to post a pic later tonight.

Re: Candy Canes

Ok here are some pics, I had to take these out of my tank to get a good shot. Hopefully someone knows what this is and can tell me if it is safe.

Re: Candy Canes

Looks to be a sponge of some sort. While not harmful I would remove it so the candy cane doesn't rub against it when it opens.

Re: Candy Canes

Usually those sponges don't. It looks like a pineapple sponge. I have had them out of water before and they never died.

Re: Candy Canes

If you have one, I'm sure you have more some where. I'd just remove and toss it, I have never tried saving them when I remove them.

Glad to here the gorgs are doing good for you. I need to get me a few more.
