Orange Monti Cap

I picked up an orange Monti Cap frag about 2-3 ". Should this be mounted vertically or horizontally? I have 4 T5 with individual reflectors and it is located near the top third of the tank. Currently I have it standing up since that is how the LFS had it. But pictures I have seen show it mostly horizontal with growth occuring vertically??

Re: Orange Monti Cap

Hi jake, just seen your thread. Monti's can be placed either way and they will grow. I recieved some Orange monti,s a few weeks ago and were mounted both ways and all appear to be doing well. I would think that you have probably done the right thing by placing the same way as LFs so as it is 1 thing less to stress the new addition. I am sure there are more experienced people on here who could offer better advice.

Re: Orange Monti Cap

In my experience it doesn't matter too much which way you place it. It will start growing out horizontally and start growing vertically and into the whorling pattern afterwards.

Re: Orange Monti Cap

Thanks Mike and Koda. This coral seems to really like my tank. It seems to have gotten about 30% fatter near the top edge already and looks healthy.
