Santa came to town!

I just bought my sons first corals for his tank from Santa. The store is holding them until Wednesday. I found a gorgeous Open Brain that is red and green, a red & green Montastrea and then saw a cute little feather duster all by his lonesome so I added him too.

What exactly is a Montastrea? I cannot find a pic online to put in Santa's box. It looks like a bunch of Zoa polyps. Are they in the same family/same thing?

Could it be a Montipora? What does it look like?

Re: Santa came to town!

No, its not a montipora. At the store and on the store receipt, its called a Montastrea. The piece I bought is a large rock covered in what looks like red and green zoo's.

Re: Santa came to town!

You saw Santa? Awww man, he's skipping my house this year, said he has done too much already.

Cool gifts for your son. I think it's awesome, what nice gifts...

As for your question about montastrea, this is what I found....

montastrea

Now just a note about this, I also came up with another link which said it was a type of brain coral... so anyway, this is what I found.

Re: Santa came to town!

I went to the LFS to visit my purchases today and my son wanted to come too. He kept going to the tank where Santa had stashed the corals and said those were the ones he wanted and then got upset when he saw they were already sold LOL!

The owner of the store gave him a nice sized green/purple Frogspawn from his show tank and 4 zoa polyps that were in the sand.

Re: Santa came to town!

Here are a couple of the new additions: The red/green open brain and the Montastrea.

The feather duster is also in there now with the Frogspawn that was a Christmas gift to my son the other day from the LFS owner. When we picked up what Santa had left today, I decided to get more live rock and the owners wife gave my son a gorgeous huge chunk of live rock and said, "Merry Christmas!"

I hope everything survives the Monastrea slime spew.
