How long before my Goniopora will open?

I have had a Goniopora for about 6 days and its polyps stay retracted all day, at night they extend very little. It is located in the sandbed and the lights are 110 W powercompacts. Does anyone know how long it takes a Goniopora to start extending its polyps?

check flow. apparently the dont like real high flow.

check for flatworms smotherin the thing too, thats common.

also, it could be possible that the sand is irritating it. you dont want the polyps to be able to brush up against rocks and such, dont know exactly about the sand bend other than i never see them there.

mine opened up in like a day. could just need time too

here a good info link on em. Goniopora Foods and Feeding

Thank you Beelzebob, the polyps have plenty of room to open up and the flow is moderate...you're lucky that yours opened up in a day, maybe it needs time like you said, can't wait. Thanx for the link.

Re: How long before my Goniopora will open?

It usually never takes a Goni a week to show some polyp extention. It could be near starvation. If you see even a little polyp coming out,I would start target feeding several times a week. They are slow eaters so you will have to do this with the pumps off.Gently squirt food through a turkey baster.Cyclops, small mysis, reef roids, coral frenzy, oyster eggs are all good choices to feed them.
