Re: buttons?

They are palythoas, aka button polyps. They really don't needany special feeding and will do fine under moderate lighting and moderate/low flow.

Nice grab for $5.

Re: buttons?

yeah i knew it was a good grab so just standard button polyps so just my iodine/trace elements/calcium that i put in my tank will be just fine?
i have them at about the middle of the tank n i have 110w of PC lighting and they are just below my powerheads(even tho the flow points up to create a current on the surface of the water..been told this was the best, by a fellow reefer who had a beautiful tank)

Re: buttons?

Are you testing for iodine, calcium and the other stuff you're adding to the tank?

By the looks of your tank, you have no other corals in there. If that's the case you have no need to be adding anything to your tank chemical wise. It is very easy to overdose your tank and that would be bad.

At this point, regular water changes will keep your levels in check.

Re: buttons?

You don't need to dose for IODINE right now. Coralline will come when it should and curse you from that point on. If you don't actively test for it you shouldn't EVER dose for it. IODINE can be toxic at very low levels.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: buttons?

ok then i won't use iodine at all was mis-lead on that part, but i should be using the kent trace elements right....now what if i wanted to frag this button polyp...would that be smart? and if i did would i be forced to do that outa tank or can i do that in tank..i dont have a frag tank and it would be my first attempt at a frag.

Re: buttons?

Honestly you don't need to worry about additives right now. What salt mix are you using? That's what the slat mix does for you. Every time you add newly mixed salt water you're infusing the tank with new trace elements. Many times the "Trace elements" additives you find are merely crap in liquid form. Honestly unless you have a problem don't waste your time and $$ with them right now.
