When you first added the coral to now?

Seeing the corals everyday, it may seem like they're not growing, but if you find an old pic and compare it to a new one, you could see the difference better.

I only have pics of a brain and a button polyp colony. While they are both thriving, the brain only expands 2-3 x the size of its skeleton during the day, and the button polyp colony seems to have the same about of polyps as it hd when I first bought it.

I even fragged about 5-6 polyps when I first got it and placed it in a different spot in the tank. All of the polyps look great - but no new ones.

Re: What makes corals GROW?

JT101,
Have you tried pulsating xenia? It can grow fast like a weed, given the right conditions of light, current, etc. I have a problem with the corals growing too fast... They seem to be motivated to grow fast to take over territory so that they can get the most light and shade out their neighbors. Wondering how big is your tank?

It very well could be the lighting. The corals you mentioned enjoy a lot of light and with that lighting you may not see the growth you want. Can you upgrade to T5?

Re: What makes corals GROW?

ya.they will live under those lighting conditions but they wont thrive and grow that fast. And the picture thing is awsome.I didnt think any of my corals were growing till i looked at some growth pics and wow have they grown. It also takes awhile. Its like planting a rose bush and standing their waiting for something.lol

i would look into some better lights

Re: What makes corals GROW?

Thanks all.

For certain reasons I am not able to upgrade to a SunPod MH setup so I'm going to have to live with a 144W PC hood upgrade from NanoCustoms.com.

I know it will still limit me, but maybe not as much as now.
