Coral ID please

These polyps are VERY small and they've started spreading like wild fire over the last week since I've finally managed to clear out phosphates and nitrates. Any idea on what they are? I thought they were Zoa's when I bought them but now I'm not so sure because of how tiny they are.

Re: Coral ID please

I would still say zoas. I have some greens that are quite small.

Re: Coral ID please

I don't think it's zoas... those polyps look to be growing out of the rock, not on the rock.

Type of favia? Maybe?
Gonipora?

Re: Coral ID please

It's interesting that they say to place it towards the bottom of the tank in lower light. I have it on top of my structure, closest to the 250w MH's and I swear, it's added 30 polyps in the last week. It's all of a sudden taken off like a weed!

Re: Coral ID please

Yeah, it really looks like the first one, the hydnophora, for sure. It's interesting though that it hadn't done anything for months, and now all of a sudden, *BOOM*! Away it goes.

Hydnophora exesa
I don't think it is Hydnophora sp. because the raised areas do not appear to be structured like hydnophores found in that genera.
The raised areas look like actual polyps:
Cyphastrea serailia
Cyphastrea ocellina
Cyphastrea chalcidicum

Re: Coral ID please

I'm positive I ordered it from VividAquariums and I'm almost positive it was the:

Limited Edition
Meteror Shower Cyphastrea

The don't define the sub-genus, they just say Cyphastrea sp.

I'm leaning more towards the microphthalma.

Re: Coral ID please

Yea, id'ing down to species is for the fun of it :P Not much way to do it short of checking a bleached section of the coral.
Regardless it looks great, and I'm glad it's growing
