Question Star polyps

I had a colony of star polyps that were doing quite well, then the mushrooms that were above them started to completely shade them. So for the past week they have not been opening, then last nigh I noticed they detached themselves from the rock they were on and "fell" down to the bottom of the tank. Can they move themselves that way to drift to a brighter location? Are they dead? has anybody else heard of this? I will find out when I get home if they are still alive.
Thanks

Re: Star polyps

dude i hate my mushies yo!!!

i got them like first thing after my tank was cycled. now i cant get rid of 'em!

i had a big red mushie grow large enough to touch part of a platy. brain i had, totaly killed the part of the colony that it touched (for like 5 days).

same thing happend to a section of my sun corals. they dont seem to bother zoos, but other softies and LPS really dont take kindly to shrooms.

sooo, maybe the shrooms are irritating your GSP? and causing the colony to deterriate.

Re: Star polyps

Star polyps grow outward in a MAT-LIKE growth. Im sure it is possible to "detach" and "try" to reattach somewhere else, but beware, like bob said, mushies can hurt them, a ricordea fell on my sun polyps, and almost killed 2 of them in a matter of minutes.

Re: Star polyps

You should glue them to the back of your tank.If you do ,try to attach them over the coriline algea,They seem to grow better over that stuff.

If they are dead pay me for shipping and I'll send you half my rock
