Pretty Yellow Polyps

Are these the bad yellow polyps people say will sting other corals and spread all over the tank?

No. Remember that all corals and polyps can sting. They need their own space just like everything else. Enjoy them.

Re: Pretty Yellow Polyps

Thankyou for the reply, I may want to place them lower in tank as some have jump off already and landed lower even onto the sand, do you think that might keep them from migrating around as much?

Re: Pretty Yellow Polyps

Those are fairly fast spreading polyps but that's what I like about them. Also their long flowing tentacles look good in the current and add some "movement" to your tank.

I love mine and they have grown from 3-5 polyps to maybe 30+ in about 4 months and spread fairly quickly. I'm planning to cut a few and glue them to a rock to transport to my tank at home to start them there.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Pretty Yellow Polyps

Definately keep them on their own rock. They will spread very quickly and have a strong sting to some corals.

With that said, I have a colony and love them! They are a beautiful coral

Yes they are...they're pretty to look at, but can become very invasive and will sting competitive corals. I had them wipe out almost half of a softball-sized colony of zoanthids.
Lots of people keep them but as has already been mentioned, they take care to isolate them from other rocks so they can't/don't spread.
I know people who will do whatever it takes to kill them...boil the rocks, use a tool to dig them out of a rock, (I used a small screwdriver!) ANYTHING to stop them...

But they sure are pretty...

Re: Pretty Yellow Polyps

Those are pretty aggressive corals. I have a rock almost entirely dedicated to yellow polyps. At first, it was sharing space with a colony of zoas but it has completely overtaken the entire rock and choking all the zoas neighboring it. Now that I mention it, I have some work to do.

Mine were touching one of my leathers and it turned the leather kind of gooey and the little polyps were gone. I moved them and the leather grew back to normal.

Re: Pretty Yellow Polyps

I have a question on these.
Anyone have experience with them just slowly dissappearing?
I took out a couple of bumble bee snails because I wasn't sure about them, but they all just left. (I hope they send me a postcard)

Re: Pretty Yellow Polyps

Mine just kind of melted into the rocks. It was weird.
I kept checking at night to see if someone was eating them.
Someone mentioned bristle worms eating zoos? Is that true?

They might have just been fireworms because I haven't ever heard of that happening.

Same IMO. I finally had to remove them as they spread too fast and kept irritating my other zoanthids and FL ricordias. Yumas would do a number on them though.
