Re: FrogSpawn.... feeding?

Definitely does not need to be fed. You will not see any difference in your coral and you can actually pollute the tank if you are a crazy feeder.

Same holds true for torch corals and any Euphyllia.

A safe place to multiply will help your pod population more than anything. I never see pods in my main tank because I assume the fish gobble em up. However my entire sump is crawlin with the suckers. Time and stable tank conditions are more important than food, they will get plenty of food as is.

Thanks gang!! My refuge is on it's way and I looked last night and it seems I have plenty of "pods" swimming around inside my make-shift fuge (aka soap-dish). It's due to me day after tomorrow and I plan on putting it together either that night or over the weekend. Can't wait to get the REAL fuge going and see what it changes in my tank (although I've been VERY lucky it's stable and productive thus far).

Thanks for the input. One more question that's sort of On topic....

I will be using my liquid Invert Food but I don't know how often... one of them says 1 drop per gallon daily and the other says similar amount but doesn't say anything other than "per feeding". How often to I add invert "juice" to the tank?

J/K

I mean the 2 different liquids I noted above for feeding my filter feeders... One is Marine Snow and the other I don't remember but it's up there in the thread somewhere...

I have noticed when I do does with Marine Snow my leather physically opens up it's pores and I don't see that with anything else or at ANY other time. Hopefully that's a GOOD thing

Re: FrogSpawn.... feeding?

Hey Al!

I cut a sliver of frozen shrimp I picked up at the grocery store. I'm talking like half my pinky finger and as thick as a credit card. I reach in, and my frog spawn and my duncan will REACH out and grab it from me. The frog spawn is a bit less capable than the duncan, but it will curl up and move the shrimp right into its mouth.

I've seen amazing growth in both my corals compared to brothers at the store which do not get fed like this.

Re: FrogSpawn.... feeding?

Wow! That's pretty cool to hear about! I've tried feeding mine just about EVERYTHING under the sun and have yet to see any real "activity". I did see a small Mysis get 1/2 engulfed but that was it.

Welcome BACK!!

Re: FrogSpawn.... feeding?

Al are you still letting lfs's sell you unnecessary additives? hehe Don't listen to them, they're just trying to make money.
The only additives your tank ever really needs is calcium and alkalinity, anything else is extra. I don't even dose phyto anymore and my micros are huge.

When I used to feed my lps I would take a cube of blood worms and brine shrimp, put them in a measuring cup of saltwater and then turkey bast that mixture to my corals. But it isn't really needed and I recommend that you have a big Euroreef skimmer, etc to handle the nutrient removal.

Re: FrogSpawn.... feeding?

Thanks Morgan! To be honest I like to "think" I've learned a lot since I started this thread 04-08-2007, 08:41 PM and No I don't dose ANYTHING like that any more. I got tired of the CRAP it caused in my tank parameters and such. I ONLY dose CALC when I get a low reading (which has been a good while now since switching to Reef Crystals).

But thanks for the advice just the same Hopefully it will help someone else who is potentially "polluting" their tank and wasting their hard earned money
