| Midas Blenny | zoos die hi i have had a colony of zoanthids in my tank. they were thriving at first but slowly they died off almost into nothing..... i test my water and i am sure the quality is fine and i know ihave enough light. I also had a bubble that did the same thing. I have finger and toadstool leather that are still doing great and mushrooms that flourish. Any help would be appreciated. thanks. |

| Fish Addict ![]() | Re: zoos die What kind of lighting on what sized tank? Some zoos can be very touchy, and most zoos require more light than leathers, and definitely more than mushrooms.

| Smart Alec with feathers | Re: zoos die Hi Bigfish, man , there's so many things that could be causing your probs. How old is your tank? Sometimes a tank will mature and then some corals thrive that wouldn't before. I know I had this same problem when my tank was starting (less than a year) but now I can grow allot of corals that I used to struggle with, I know this doesn't answer your question, but it might help in the long run...Patience & luck...D

| Has been struck by the ban stick | Re: zoos die That's so strange! I have the exact same problem. I have many other corals (toadstool, colt, bubbles and frogspawn) that are all doing great EXCEPT for my zoos. I have the same situation also; I even do 20% water changes every week! However, I have a theory...it could be an infestation: possibly aiptasia and bristleworms because I saw one a couple of days ago moving around my zoos and one anemone very close by. It's just a theory but seems plausible since I don't have anything in my tanks that eat zoos except possibly a scopas but I feed it and the rest of his tank mates so good that can't seem right. |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: zoos die I highly recommend fresh water/iodine dipping all new/sick zoanthids. They could be infested with sundial snails or a disease. Once the dip is finished, place the zoas in a med-high flow with med-high light. Some zoas like high light/flow, others like med light/flow.

| Fish Addict ![]() | Re: zoos die Infestation is a really big possibility. If you leave your tank zoo free for a while, you can get rid of them. Sea spiders could be the problem too.

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: zoos die I am going through a similar problem with my zoanthids. I have lost 2 colonies and 2 other colonies have been affected but I am hoping they may survive. I found some great information on unexplained zoanthid wasting disease on RC's Zoanthid forum. It started with a new colony that I had added about two weeks before. (I always give new Zoas a fresh water dip). I threw that rock out right away but then a colony on my base rock started deteriorating There was nothing I could do but watch. A week later the colony of well over 100 polyps was completly gone. My other colonies did not show any signs of it until the 2nd colony was nearly all gone. Fresh water dips seem to have slowed the progression of this wasting disease on a couple of my colonies along with small water changes every day. I think I have saved these but have probably lost about 2/3 of those colonies. I have another colony that is clearly a different species and they have been unaffected. If it is sundial snails fresh water dips will not help. Sundial snails must be removed manually. Dipping will kill sea spiders and nudibranches but not the nudi's eggs. You have to manually remove egg sacs or plan on doing other dips for these when they hatch.
