Anemone stuck in filteration (Help)

Hello I have a strange problem
My Long tenticle Anemone has been moving around at night. This morning I got up to find that he had moved by my canister filter inlet and had got suck up in to it. I turned off the filter and took the end cap off which he is stuck to. His tenticles are up in side the slats of the cap and I cant get him off. So I have just left him alone to see if he can get it off him self. He has some damage to his tenticles but other than that he looks ok. Does any one no what I should do. Is there any kind of medication I should give him. Is this end cap going to be stuck to him for the rest of his life? I just dont know what to do at this point.

You've done the right thing. Just let him work out of it on his own. You would just do more damage trying to help. Don't medicate but instead keep your water pristine! Anemones are very resilient...it will be fine. Keep us posted!

...ohhh.. and get a sponge filter or screen for the inlet to prevent him from getting injured again.

That accounts for the deaths of countless anemones each year. Powerheads and filter intakes can be deadly for them. I find that I can manage to adapt these for almost every pump, powerhead or filter intake I've come across.

Well to keep every one posted I went home at lunch and he had got it off. he has alot of damaged tenticles and has closed up alot but still is kicking. So I hope every thing will be ok. Also were do you get thos filters, I have checked my local LFS and they dont have any?

those are made by Hagen, filter for powerheads. i know they could order it for you.

Sorry for not providing that info...Yes,. they are made by Hagen. They are sold as "quick Filters. The larger ones are available most places, but the small ones are very hard to find. One of my LFS got in a large supply, so I bought several while they were available.

Those work really well also tp eliminate extra floating sediments out of the water column too!!

personally id run it without the cartridge, to much of a nitrate factory, id just use it as a shield against intrusion of lifeforms. when powerheads are placed into a tank,,,sometimes its to difficult or a bother to pull them out every week to clean a filter on them. when there are more eficient ways to elimitate particulates.

but thats just my opinion.

I run mine only without the insert. The filter cartridge piece does plug very quickly. They're nice to help clear a sandstorm, or if your water does seem to have some particulates, but only for a short time. They also can be used to help start a quarantine tank, after you've used them in your tank for a week or so. The old Fluval internal filters had a round foam insert that you could use in these for an excellent biological filter, but I guess they discontinued them.

I had a RBTA get sucked onto one of my closed loop intakes. I just let it work its way off, and its tentacles were pretty beat up. In a few days though, they were much improved. As long as the foot wasn't damaged, then I think your anemone will recover. Just keep an eye on it the next several days.

Do these solution all restrict water flow, make pumps work harder and produce more heat? I have the same problem. I've had a BTA that has been happy where he is for like 5yrs with an oscillaris, but my "carpet" anemone with the saddle back clown is quite adventerous and suicidal. I think I need foam guards maybe?

If you use just the housing, as shown on the powerhead, there is virtually NO resistance or loss of flow. I've never lost a fish or anemone with one of these, and the only inverts that can have a problem are those small enough to fit thru the openings, which are less than 1/4" tall. Foam tends to plug over time, and needs frequent cleanings to help prevent them from becoming bio-filters and creating nitrates.
