Rescued anemone help

I told my friend Steven (Ishwish here) I'd be "on call" for his tank sitter if anything went wrong. Well, murphy's law struck and the evening after he left town his BTA decided to take a trip to the overflow. I went over last night and got it out of the overflow without damaging its foot (I think) and brought it home so I could keep an eye on it- didn't want it kicking the bucket on the tank sitter.

The anemone has several damaged tentacles, the tips of some have actually come off. Also, I saw a semi-clear, bubble-like membrane coming out of its mouth after acclimation. I assume this was the anemone disemboweling itself. I never saw it actually lose the membrane though, as it became occupied with taking a walk across my tank after acclimation.

I've never cared for an injured anemone. I figure this one's got maybe a 50/50 shot, considering the foot is intact?

Any advice?

edit: to clarify, the anemone was stuck in the overflow's eggcrate strainer, partially in, partially out and taking a beating.

I had one that got sucked into a powerhead. It had extensive tentacle and partial foot damage. It fully recovered over time, but I accidently nuked it when a cup of salt got spilled on him. Nver mix salt over an open tank! Real rookie mistake on my part.

The only advice that I can give you is, if it turns it'self over and shrinks up to about a quarter or half dollar size...get it out of your tank. When ours did that, it then died and I sure the heck wish I had taken it out sooner. What a mess that was.

Do you have it in your main tank?

K, thanks. Yeah, it's in the main tank but I'm keeping a close eye on it.

Anenomes are very resilient. It should be fine. It may shrink, mine do occassionally, but as long as it doesn't start to disentigrate you'll be fine. They can really spoil a tank fast. Kudos to ya Travis for taking such good care of it!! (i'd karma ya, but i'm all out now)

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

I agree that anemones are more resilliant than we might think. We had the exact same thing happen when we left for Greece last spring. We were all of about 24 hours gone and our exteme-sport RBTA took the big plunge over the overflow. Time seemed to do the trick.

Then just about a month ago it went for another voyage. I came home to find it 2/3 through one gap and 1/3 through another. Poor thing. I tapped it back through the gaps and it has been in 'recovery' ever since. Slow and steady...

I bet you will be fine... hope so...

Lil' update... the anemone is doing fantastic! It's opened up, looking good, and the Clarkii is keeping it good company (much to my rose's dismay). And it decided to take a walk over to one of the rocks forming the base of my aquascaping. So it looks like he might be staying a little longer than expected.

Just an update: The anemone bounced back fully

And Ishwish came and took her home today. He had offered to let me keep it, but the @$%^ thing moved around too much. He brought me lots of nice SPS frags though!

Just though I'd give everyone an update.
