| Tunicate | Huge chunk of salt crystal fell on my anemone Can anyone give me some advice? I was scraping the sides of my tank when a huge flake of salt became dislodged from the back of my light and fell directly on my rose bubble anemone. The salt crystal was flat and about 2x1 inches large. It immediately closed around it before I could try to flush it out. Now it is completely closed up and is partially under a rock and I've noticed small pinkish gooey stringy looking things floating out of it when my clowns have tried to get in it. Is there anything I can do? I really hope this doesn't kill it. |

| Fuzzy Sticks ![]() | Re: Huge chunk of salt crystal fell on my anemone Yeah, salt can burn corals and melt anemones and soft corals also. There is not much you can do now other then use a turkey baster and try to flush it out a bit. Most likely the salt is dissolved by now and the damage is done. Let this be a lesson to you and get a better maintenance program going. 2 minutes a day doing a regular clean up of all the equipment with a clean rag and fresh water is not asking a lot.

| Reef Lobster | Re: Huge chunk of salt crystal fell on my anemone As long as you have good lighting, water parameters, and an established tank, I don't think you have anything to worry about... anemones are fairly hardy, despite the fact that most aquarists who try to keep them don't do well.. I think that's mostly because they don't know how to keep them and can't meet their needs. Regardless, corals and anemones are hardy, and a small chemical burn shouldn't kill it. |

| Fuzzy Sticks ![]() | Re: Huge chunk of salt crystal fell on my anemone I have to back Brenda up on this one, anemones are not hardy. Yes they can withstand a lot of damage physically like cuts and such but they are very sensitive to water parameters and chemical imbalance. A chunk of salt will definatly cause problems and stress.
