Re: bta

The hermit is likely scavenging, looking for bits of algae or food particals. If it worries you and/or causes the anemone to stay closed, then remove it. If the anemone seems fine, then don't sweat it.

Re: bta

I'm no expert, as I am currently enjoying my first BTA, but here's what I have noted: it doesn't seem to care that much about flow. I have a vortech and a Koralia 4, with the Koralia being on a timer that turns it off for about 5 minutes and then back on during the day (off all night). The BTA gets a pretty direct blast from the Koralia and when it first turns on the BTA kind of retracts slightly, seems to re-grip the rock work but then within a minute is back to fully expanded and beautiful to watch waving in the current.

My BTA seems to be much more selective about light than current. Its anchor point is on the back of the rock work and unless I shade the light shining down between the back wall and the rocks, it'll just expand up the back wall where I can't see it well. All I had to do was put some rubble into the gap at the top of the rocks to block the light shining down the back wall and it'll expand out to the front of the rockscape.

My guess is that individual BTA's will respond differently to these environmental stimuli, depending on where they came from/what they were used to, as well as other 'reasons' I couldn't guess at. I suspect your nem will find the spot in your tank that suits its light/flow needs best.

Hope that helps

Kurt

I have 3 blue-leg hermits in my tank. I have never seen them messing with my BTA.
