Please tell me I didn't make a mistake..

Hey all,
I'm new here..
My husband has the tank not me..

My husband brought home a new anemone about a week and a half ago. From day one the thing seemed weak... it was super slow to move(the other one he has had always been pretty quick that is why I noticed) like the first day it took him about 12 hours to just moved up on rock.
Anyhow, so then my husband moved him to the top rock since it seemed he was not going to get there anytime soon..
Well he then moved himself to a corner and pretty much started looked sad. He did not move much and would stay pretty to himself(like balled up more then extending himself) Well the last to days he has been looking REALLY sad. I am pretty sure he has been dying.. I know I had read on the net about how they will look sad with change (like moving to new tank), but he was not getting over it. Then finally today he slowly moved himself out from the corner he was in and then started shriveling up.. and then spitting foam out of his mouth.. and all day did not smell pleasant. He was also having these weird bubble like things on his front.. sorry had to describe, but it looked like when you blow a bubble with gum, but it was his skin in the front(you can see 1 in the pic)
I took the picture right then.. after I put camera down, he then REALLY was sinking in and balling up. I figured he was dying at this time..so I quickly took out because I did not want other things in tank to die.. Please tell me I was right. I already cried when I had to take him out.. poor anemone.
Is this normal or did we get a bad one.. from a bad shop?

IMHO I think you probably did the right then. When it comes to anemone(S) my theory about them dieing is . .

"When in doubt.. yank it OUT!" No sense risking your whole tank!!

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!
Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.

Yeah what Al said. I think you did the right thing. Sounded like his expiration date was slowly approaching.

Did you dispose of it, or have it in a separate container? If it's in a container, what is it looking like now?

Also, what kind of anemone is it?

I'm not sure it's on its way out. Sometimes they "spill their guts". It's obviously stressed, but sometimes they're okay after doing this.

To me, the tentacles actually look in pretty good condition. I'm by no means an expert, but the anemones that I've had die actually fall apart. Kind of like bread disintegrating in water... the foot, the tentacles, everything just sort of melts away.

This one doesn't seem to be falling apart like that; if you look at the guts in the center, they're looking intact to me.

Hopefully someone will pop in with some more experience.

For starters, how long has the tank been setup, what are the water parameters, what type of lighting is on the tank, what other fish are in the tank?

Yes, I agree with the others. You did the right thing.

Note your photo. The anemone is not attaching itself to anything. This indicates a problem. Usually a healthy one will try to attach itself to something quickly. Also, see all that stuff in the center of the anemone. That's the anemone's "stomach". In other words, it's puking up it's guts. This is a very unhealthy sign. While an anemone can sometimes recover from this, it is unlikely.

It is far better to have removed it, and not put the rest of your tank at risk.

In addition to the questions asked by jellyman, I would also add, what is the size of the tank? Many anemones get large, and require a large tank to keep them.

No clue, as I said before this is not my tank.. I don't upkeep it.
I'm just home all day with it.

And it is already gone.

Yea, That thing was on its way out. I had a carpet do the same thing. Once the odor started.....it died within the next day. U did the right thing and probably saved your hubby a water change and possibly loosing other stuff in the tank. JMO. Good choice....PP

Just asking in case something is out of whack. That way if you decide to try an anemone in the future you may have better luck. And then again, your tank may have perfect conditions and it was doomed before you purchased it.
