New Anemone

I am not sure what type of anemone this is. It was labeled "carpet" anemone when I bought it online but I do not think it is a carpet.

6-27-09 Just added to the reef

7-11-09 Two weeks in - Expanding well. It has not deflated or moved and has a great appetite!

I still have dual 250 SE reeflux 10k with dual 4' T5 actinics. All powered by Icecap electronic ballasts.

That's beautiful Frankie. Mine appears to have less tenticles than that one in the picture.

However, I have purchased a purple S. gigantea that will be delivered Saturday....

I have seen that anemone sp. in the picture above but cannot find the link.

I will keep searching. IT was not as colorful but had the same lack of tentacles as yours does. If memory serves me right, it too was labeled a carpet anemone. The pictures were all from the ocean also, not aquariums. I will ask Boomer to take a look at it.

I purchased it from Einstein Aquatics. I actually purchased two from them. Both are doing fabulous so far.

That looks a Ritteri Long Tentacle Carpet, aka Heteractis magnifica, old name Radianthus ritteri. There are many morphic colors and shapes. It is often also called one of the Long Tentacle anemones as opposed to the Short Tentacle anemones like S. gigantea.

I am guessing that it is 4 - 4.5" wide but I'll try the dime thing next time I take a pic of it.

So, it is smaller that that last pic by 1/2 or the size of the first pic, which makes it even more a Ritteri. Even the sec pic has Ritteri all over it. I'm 95 % sure now but that last pic kinda fakes me out as it looks nothing like the first two pics. When I say the first 2 pics it was a 100 % Ritteri, as I use to raise them before most where born here

Fantastic looking Doni. It seems to be one happy camper. I'd love to see how it looks after you've had it 6 months. It took my Sebae about four months to really settle in. Now it's a showpiece. Folks seem to expect too much too soon.

Nope, I have never had any sps or what we call a "true" carpet, which is the one you just ordered but friends have

They can get so stick that if you put the back of your hand on them and try to remove it you will rip off tentacles. I will add that one of my Ritter's split though, which is kinda rare for a Rit, turned bleach white and I had to feed it by hand. Of course it being in a tall 45 gal tank with a single fluorescent bulb my explain that
