FJ . . . your right, we all have our opinions and of course you have yours. I think there are various opinions about what you can keep a BTA under but having kept one for 2 years and then taken it back to the LFS who run VHO's I would say we should try to keep them under the optimal conditions that the creature requires and in my opinion that means MH. It was huge and glorious in my tank but it got soooo big (over 2ft) that it had to go back. Now it is half it's normal size and desperatley looking for another MH home. Lets face it, we could all survice breathing air 10ft behind a truck but would you want to for the rest of your life. JMO buddy, hope it does well in your system.

Speaking of BTA's....how much do these guys eat...I give mine a silverside half ( 3/4 x 1/4) or mysis shrimp or squid and all it's doing is eating and eating and it's grown from a 3 incher to over 8 inches. It looked pretty "rosy" when I got it, but now the tips seem to have gotten "neon green". He moved directing under the PC's and seems happy...I've had him over a year. I've heard that if they keep stinging the food and eating it's okay to feed them. Does this sound right...thanks

That is very normal. They will move to where they are the happiest. It will come out when it's ready. Once it does come out, you can encourage it to stay in one place by feeding it.

Hopefully, you'll be able to keep an eye on it while it's hiding. If it starts to look like it's melting, not just shrivelled up, you'll need to remove it. Mine used to concern me when they shrunk up, but now I'm used to it

GL!

Yep, they'll stop eating when they're full. Sounds like it's happy

I disagree about the lighting thing. I have kept BTA's LTA's and even a Sebae anemone and all have done very well with PC lighting. The Sebae I bought was bleached and it regained it's color quickly and almost tripled in size until it wrapped itself around a heater and it perished. In tanks under 20" of depth I wouldn't hesitate to use PC lighting and it's much more intense than VHO, 220w of PC would be the equivelant of almost 400w of VHO's. There's no question MH is best but in smaller tanks PC lighting would suffice. JME

Thank you, Robert! That was my thought about the issue of lighting.

He came out the next morning and is still in the same spot since then. He is about 3" above the SB, and open. He doesn't look stretched out at all, so I know he's not starved of light. He wasn't totally full of color when I got hime either, but you could tell he was a green BTA, now he has started to turn green again, and his bulbs are kinda off and on inflated/deflated, which I understand is totally normal.

I'll get a pic soon.

Please exceuse the quality of the pic. I have learned how to adjust the white balance, but my cam doesn't like taking pics with any green, and only certain shades of it show.
