Green Carpet Anemone

My LFS has a green carpet anemone for sale ($70). I bought a maroon clown and want to add the anemone. I know that they need lots of room to grow, but I only have a 27Gal aquapod. I was wondering if I could add this now since it is still small. Next year I am planning to get a larger tank. So my question is, how fast do these grow and will it be okay to keep it in a 27Gal tank for a year?

Nope Im sorry way to small of a tank.. All Fish will get stung and ate. They grow pretty fast as well. I would just hold out for your bigger tank.

Re: Green Carpet Anemone

IMO absolutely not.
Carpets are one of the most difficult anemones and require quite a bit of light and room. I know you don't have the room and I doubt you have the lights. They also require very stable paramaters which are very difficult to keep in a small tank.
Do you realize how big they get? I have a friend who has a 75g tank just for his carpet and a pair of clowns. There is not room for anything else.
If you really want to get an anemone then you will be much better off with a BTA. They are much more forgiving but even those get pretty big and require strong lighting and a reasonable amount of space. I have one in my 20g tank with a pair of clowns and it pretty much takes up 2/3 of the tank when it is expanded.

Very well said by Vicki and Lynn and just to add the Carpet Anemone isn't a natural host for the Maroon Clown the Bubble Tip Anemone is and would be your best option but you need good lighting. What type of lighting are you using and how many watts ?

Also, you will be able to find $70 deals on carpets again in the future when you have a bigger tank.

The light I have is 150W HQI Metal Halide. Thanks for all your advice. I think I will go with the bubble tip anemone as suggested.

Re: Green Carpet Anemone

i agreee, carpets can get big, and are demanding and might easily catch fish in a smaller tank, also your moroon really most likely will not host in it, but he'll love a bta

Re: Green Carpet Anemone

Personally, I'm sure glad that you bothered to ask and research before jumping at buying a creature so missuited for your current system. It was the responsible thing to do. Good luck with the BTA!

Re: Green Carpet Anemone

Barney, I think you may have misunderstood. You're not the one with the Green Carpet anemone.... A BTA is going to be much easier to handle than a Carpet in the long run in a system of this size.
