Re: green carpet Anemone

One could easily fill a 65 when full grown. You also need a lot of light and a very well established tank. They are not for the beginner.

Re: green carpet Anemone

For most tanks it is not a good idea. Woodstock has a gorgeous one and Witfull has also been successfull with them. I have a friend who has devoted a tank to his. So, it can be done but they are not for the beginner or for a small tank.

Well that depends, do you want a tank completely dedicated to one Anemone ? I don't remember the dimensions of the standard 65 gal but these Anemones can grow up to 3' in diameter so you need to take that into consideration.

i think i might give it a couple of days keep an eye on it and see what happens.
The key is to have clownfish being hosted by the Anemone that way they would keep the other fish away and using moonlights so there's no accidental contact by other fish.

Re: green carpet Anemone

good points everyone,
i have a green carpet too and it is the coolest thing in my tank. Feeding it always makes visitors happy and cheeks has a good point with the clowns, also carpets usually acclimate better with a host as well. I turned my flow off until it found a spot it liked and yours seems to have found one now.
I have had two chromis get eated by it but they were trying to attack my clowns and missed, was kind of funny.

I say keep it, your tank looks great and i think you are ready!!!

I'm with you Snelly, that thing is gorgeous and I would keep it. The clown fish should do the trick I think as they can be aggressive.

Re: green carpet Anemone

Thanks for sharing your story with us! You had to do what you were most comfortable with for your tank and tangs. You're a good aquarist, keeping your creatures lives as the most important thing.

I hope you'll post more pictures because your tank is wonderful! I'd love to see your new additions.

Re: green carpet Anemone

I have had my green carpet for almost 18 months now--he has never moved and never killed anything. He has been one of the easiest things in the tank to take care of, but he had grown to the point where I am either putting him in my other tank or trading him in soon--my tank is only 35g, but it seems to do well even now. From day one my clown has basically lived in it--even at night, he curls up inside the mouth and I always thought he was going to eat it, but never has.
