aaarrghh... stupid anemone

Put a BTA in my tank a few days ago. It is a captive clone and seems happy in my tank. It moved around a bit until it found a rock it liked and attached. Fed it some mysis and all was good. Put a tomato clown in the tank and it went straight to the BTA and hosted. Great, just what we wanted. Then the BTA started moving. All the way under the rockwork to the back, upside down with its tentacles in the substrate. Does it not like the clown?? Cant get to it in the rocks. Cant point a powerhead at it from behind. Can barely see the anemone and havent seen the clown for a day. Any thoughts.

chances are it'll come back out looking for more light. keep an eye on it, the last thing you want is for it to die back there. it'll quickly foul the tank if it dies behind the rockwork and you can't get at it.

Is the anemone large enough to host the clown? Clowns can stress and injure the anemone especially during the intial "get to know me" routine. The general rule I have always been given is that the anemone should be at least 2.5x the clown's lenght in diameter to be a host.

If the anemone is too small for the clown, it may be stressed and trying to get away.

You may want to experiment by removing the clown from the tank for a couple of days and seeing what happens. I have heard stories of what appear to be perfectly happy BTA's deciding to move from their spot, then getting sucked into powerheads and killed. This will seriously ruin your day if it happens.

And welcome to RS!

the clown is about 1 1/4" and the BTA is 4" but the clown is very enthusiastic about the anemone. it rolls around and moves alot in the anemone.
