| Fire Coral | Non Bubble Tip Anemone I have had my bubble tip for around 6 years now. It is huge and I hope happy. It is host to a big old maroon clown. It has been sucked into powerheads, caused rockwork collapses, eaten several firefish - and still it is a source of enjoyment in the tank. I can't believe it has survived my ignorance for the first few years of its life in my tank. The only time that it ever gets the bulbed tips is when something tragic has happened (see above). For years, I never really directly fed it. I have been starting to feed it silversides twice a week just to see if it would get the bulbed tips, but it seems like the tentacles are getting even longer (some are easily 5" long). It looks more like a long tentacled anemone. It is in a 75 gallon tank with a 38 gallon sump/refugium and an ASM skimmer. Outer Orbit light fixture (two 150 watt 10,000K MH and two 130 watt actinic PCs). My water quality has been stable for at least a couple of years. pH8.3, Sg 1.023, Ca 420, Alk 8.2, all other untraceable. I am not going to drastically change anything but was wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this. It does look really cool when the tips are bulbed (and takes up less room). |

| Over Achiever | Re: Non Bubble Tip Anemone My understanding is that they lose their bulbs in captivity for unknown reasons. Some say feeding them will bring back the bulbs, others say not feeding them will bring back the bulbs. I don't think anyone really knows for sure. That is a big anemone though. Has it split at all in the 6 years you have had it in your tank? |

| Fire Coral | Re: Non Bubble Tip Anemone I keep waiting for it to split... It would be great if it were half its size. I has taken over half the tank and I don't have the heart to get rid of it or the clown. In a perfect world, I would have the room and the resources to set up a tank specifically for it. |

| Tunicate | Re: Non Bubble Tip Anemone I have a bubble tip Anemone, he split from one to three Anemones with in 2 weeks of purchasing him. The "bubbles" are more prominent when he hasn't eaten in a couple days. My LFS guy told me they show more when they are hungry. I feed them a little bit of a store bought cocktail shrimp every 2 days or so. . but, I'm no expert. My reef tank is just under a year old and so is my knowledge of it. |
