Anemone Gone Crazy

hello all,

I have a bulb tip anemone i purchased about a year ago, and since then it has split 6 times (noticed the latest this morn). All but 1 have stayed in its original location. How many times can they split? Will it eventually overrun my tank?

Re: Anemone Gone Crazy

How did you get your BTA to split out of curiosity. I'm been trying to get mine to split but its still the same size when i got it.

May i ask what kind of lighting you are using?

Re: Anemone Gone Crazy

So what do you do? Sneak up on the tank, jump up and yell "BOO!"?

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Re: Anemone Gone Crazy

How much shock are we talking about here. I have had my GBTA for over a year and it has just gotten bigger and bigger.

Re: Anemone Gone Crazy

The shock is what triggers the split. Some anemones will just get bigger and bigger while others split once they get to a certain size. If they are splitting a lot or splitting off several small splits it is splitting due to stress. Kind of one of those preserve the species thing.

Re: Anemone Gone Crazy

Would changing water parameters fall into the catagory of "shock"?

Re: Anemone Gone Crazy

Absolutely. Particularly a large spike of anything. Anemones are actually very delicate animals that require a very stable established system.

Re: Anemone Gone Crazy

I know they need shock to split, but I would rather do it surgically than carpet bombing. I have clams, lps, softies and such in the tank that I would be worried about if I change things too much. How would I direct it at just the anemone?
