Re: what kind of nem should i get

Unfortunatley an anemone will not survive under ANY Pc lighting. Anemones are best suited for MHs, Multiple blun T5s with Individual reflectors, or LEDS.
There is no such tjing as a moderate light anemone. But there are many corals that clownfish wil host in. Frogspawn, Xenia, even hairy mushrooms, and all of these will fare much better under your lighting.~Michael

Re: what kind of nem should i get

I disagree with Michael. I had a carpet anenome for a while under PC lighting. It even grew in size. Ive seen others who have anenomes under PC lighting. Do i think they can survive. Yes. Do i think they will thrive. it depends on your care for the tank, how often you replace bulbs. and i think on the total wattage or PAR that get to the anenome. Its going to be a controversial thing. I think the #1 reason that most dont have sucess with them is because they dont research enough on them and they add them to their setup to early before their tank matures. Just my opinion and experience.

Re: what kind of nem should i get

I have never heard of anyone keeping an anemone for any length of time under PCs. Especially a carpet Anemone. But I guess it could happen. IMO anemones should NOT be kept under PC lighting. Even if they live for a while, they will not thrive. I put the health and happiness of the animal over what I want.~Michael

Re: what kind of nem should i get

While I certainly wouldn't try it with a carpet, BTAs are the most forgiving of the anemones IME. With enough PC light one could be fine but I am not sure that is enough. Anemones really do need high light and very very stable water parameters.
I would wait for some others to chime in who have more experience with nems.
I have a RBTA in a 20g with T5 lights and it is doing great but that is a shallow tank and the lights are T5.

Re: what kind of nem should i get

Hi guys I'm pretty new to this website and thought I'd give my 2 cents. I've kept a carpet anenome for about a year under pc's and I presently have a tank raised rbta (that has split 5 times on one rock !) for about 2 years. Mind you it's on the upper part of the aquarium and under 265 watt in my 75 gal. I recently purchased an aquatincs tx5 fixture and can't wait to see how my animals react.

Re: what kind of nem should i get

Clowns have definitely been known to host in frogspaawn. Almost any soft or LPS coral has been known to be a host to clowns. I have seen xenia, leathers, mushrooms and pretty much anything but SPS used by clowns as a host.

Re: what kind of nem should i get

As lynn said they "Can" host in a variety of "dangly" corals. The only concenr I have here is that they are "rough" on their host. It's not known why they are so rough but they are. My clown has single handedly killed : 5 heads of FrogSpawn, 3 heads of Torch Coral and only ONE head of Hammer. He was just giving them some "Rough Love" I Guess. The only way I Was able to save what is left was to give him something else to host. First was Xenia and now a lovely sebae.
