Angry Anemone Moved!!

Hi Everyone -

I've had a large green buble tip for about a year now.. he found a great place in the middle of the tank and hosted my marroon clown happily. He's grown significantly since I got him.. this morning I woke up and he had moved over night to a completely new location!! I dont like the way he is now... but if he's happy I guess it's OK. Should I be worried that something is wrong and caused this?

No worries, motile animals for a reason. Must have needed to move, although not necessarily where we want them.

Sounds like a nice specimen, how about posting some pictures.

Welcome to RS!

They occasinally seek areas of less light. Again no worries, unless it gets sucked into a powerhead, eh?

If he is not happy were he is, he will probably move.

Yeah - or seen another way, now your anemone wants a range in your tank to call her own. We have about a square foot of rock left open for our twin RBTAs to wander, which they do...

Your signature list looks very interesting. Any chance to see a pic of your tank?

And BTW to RS!

If it moved underneath an overhang, my hunch is you're about to have 2 anemones.

Congratulations.

wow.

is this normal behavior before splitting? he has continued to move deeper and deeper into the overhang. i couldn't get him out unless i was willing to pull apart whole reef... .. i hope he comes back out.. maybe both of them??

jimeluiz, i updated my signature to be a little more up to date. I will try and post a pic for you sometime tonight or tomorrow. ill get you guys a close up of the anemone too.

thanks for all the advice.

Yep, definitely sounds like it's gonna split...

They're really vulnerable while doing this, so they like to hide.

I was really stoked the first time my BTA split... now that I have 6 in my tank (and took 2 others back in to the LFS) I'm a little less overjoyed when it happens...
At least they're a constant source of store credit.

Keep us posted as to what's happening.

Yep, everytime one of my BTA gets ready to split, it moves from it's previous location in to a overhang type of place, and usually within a couple of days, TA-DA...I have 2 (or more!)

still back there

just to keep you guys updated:
it has basically migrated to the back of the tank with its foot wedged under a big rock and a good portion of its body between that rock and up against the back wall of the tank. he seems ok so i'll keep my fingers crossed. what should i be looking for as far as signs of splitting. i can't imagine how they would go about doing this.. thanks everyone.

ps. i was unable to get a pic yesterday but ill try my dardest to get one soon.

When they split, it will attach it's foot to 2 spots fairly far apart and the center of the foot will appear stretched.
Then it starts splitting at the center of the foot, and tears itself all the way up... pretty gruesome actually
Of course this all happens in slow motion... it's not like a spring-loaded reaction or anything... usually takes an hour or 2 for the whole process.

Keeping my fingers crossed for ya.
