What type of anemone is this?

Hello, I went to my LFS yesterday and got a little ahead of myself with excitement. I ended up purchasing two small anemones, but I'm not sure which kind they are? I'm afraid of them being condi anemones, can someone please help me identify them? From now on I need to do my damn research first! ; P

First one,

Second,

Re: What type of anemone is this?

Yes, you do have a couple of condi anemones, or more correctly, Condylactis gigantea. Here is a link to some general information about them (Offsite) - Giant Caribbean Sea Anemone (Condylactis gigantea)

Also, nothe that your anemones are white, rather than brown. This is because they have lost their symbiotic algae. They can recover this in time if kept under bright light.

I do not consider this anemone to be easy to care for, but it's not impossible. However, your tank looks more or less new, and it most likely too soon to introduce an anemone. They usual "rule of thumb" is that anemones should go into well established tanks. This usually takes about a year. Anemones also require just about perfect water quality. They are closely related to corals, and you can think of them as a big coral polyp, with out the skeleton.

Feed this anemone only once or twice a week, and only one or two, very small bits, about 1/4", of chopped seafood.

The other alternative may be to return them to your LFS.

I would bring them back Lilmismermaid. From the look of your rock this is a brand new set up like Dave said. There going to die in there.

I just found your tank picture and see it is a new setup. I also recomend finding a new lfs to go too if the let you buy these anemones knowing you just set that tank up. This really ticks me off.
I like your aqua scaping btw Your tank will look great over time.

Did the LFS not even know what they were or did you just forget?
I would seriously reconsider where you are spending your money. I had an lfs do the same thing with me and as I learned more and more I realized exactly how bad the advice they were giving me was.
They sold me a condy right at the beginning telling me my clown would host in it. The thing got absolutely huge and none of the fish would go to that side of the tank. I ended up giving it to my kids marine biology class and my tank is much happier now.

Re: What type of anemone is this?

Unfortunately many LFS operate by selling without regard for the livestock or individual. to them it's just merchandise and they really don't care what happens after it belongs to you. You are in the right place here at RS. Please take your time with your new tank and ask here on line. We have nothing to gain from your purchases other than the satisfaction that comes from helping a fellow hobbiest build a wonderful tank that they can enjoy. Our reward is your success. All most of us would like is a picture every now and then so we can enjoy your tank too.

Re: What type of anemone is this?

Thank you for your replies, I feel a bit foolish myself. I went there with just a cleaning crew in mind, then saw the sale sign on these anemones and jumped into it too soon, not to mention they eat fish ! I am going to call the LFS Monday and see if maybe they will give a refund ;/ Unfortunately, there are no other LFS shops close to me..so from now on I just need to do more reading before I go in and the excitement of everything sweeps me away!
Thanks again for helping me out, I come here for advice now because you are all the best around..

I know what you mean. I have a LFS about 40 min away and they are not good at all. I knew more as a newbie than they did. The next closest is The Fish Store And More in Atlanta, 1hr 15min away. I take all of my books with me when I go there, and if I find something I like, I look it up.
