Identification

So the LFS labeled this as a "Candy cane anemone" but I can find no info on this thing. I have a feeling its not what it says it is...anyway, its bright red/orange at the base, white tentacles with bright purple tips and the clowns wont go near it. Its about 2 inch wide at the base, 5 at the tips when open and has about a 1/4-1/2 inch mouth.

Idea's? I'm sure its common I just have no idea where to look....

Thanks!

Re: Identification

It very well could be a Condy! Wish I had enough experience with one to say for sure!!

Good luck and here's a BUMP for you

When in doubt... wait it out. This means take it slow and let the tank "develop" and don't rush it. Time is your friend

Re: Identification

I agree, sure looks like a Condy. If/When you see it eating one of your fish you'll know for sure.

Re: Identification

Condy it is. They get absolutely huge and rarely will host clowns. They will eat fish though and amazingly large ones at that. Mine ate a good size bi-color angel before I gave it to a marine biology class at my kids school.

Re: Identification

Condylactis gigantea. I had one for about 3 months and it never bothered any of my fish (lucky, I guess) we fed him a popcorn scallop about every other day. One night about 2 weeks ago we found him as a red ring around the inlet of a Maxijet 1200.

Re: Identification

yeah he is definitally a condy they need high light and can be hard to take care of especially if your tank is not fully established(learned that the hardway when i had a 10g nano..and was sold the wrong thing by the lfs) i would take it out and take it back to your LFS IMO but if you want the task to try and take care of it i wish you the best of luck
