| Social Darwinism victim | I think I should be talked out of this but... oh, boy... friend of mine offered me his RBTA free for nuthin'. Same guy I got Moe from. I babysat his tank while he was away for almost a month, "discovered" the BTA all bleached, he hadn't seen it for a while. I nursed it back to health... we had no idea what color it was because it was so white. Now it's a happy rosy browny color. FYI, you should have seen my reaction when I called him and said I'd found the nem and it was white. He told me to feed it. I said "WHAT?" Well, there was absolutely no response when I started feeding it shredded silverside pieces, now it actively wraps its tentacles around the half to 3/4 of silverside I give it (with the "hand of god" = wood skewers) and gobbles it down. Bad things: tank's not that old. BUT I started the 75 with a lot of water from this friend's tank and I barely went though any cycle at all. Params are good (WHY can't I get the trAtes to 0??? close though...) got 300 watts of 14K metal halide.... and two different clowns (niether are the right "type" though for BTAs)...

| Over Achiever | Re: I think I should be talked out of this but... Kathy, this is a tough call. IMO, a helthy stable reef is what is important. By stable I mean the water parameters do not fluctuate, salinity, ionic make-up, temperature etc. If your tank is 6 month old and you have been able to keep it stable then I say go for it. Otherwise, ask your friend to hold onto it until your tank is stable. |

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: I think I should be talked out of this but... well, define 6 months. I got the 5g going in march? april? then got the 37g a month after that. The 75g has been up for less than a month, although all parts from it have been around 6 months or longer. No fluctuations in stuff you test for. The minuter fluctuations, that sensitive creatures might feel and we can't test for? Dunno.

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: I think I should be talked out of this but... he's military. Been told he's going. (buh-bye now!) He's got a little while yet though. If I don't take it we can either farm it out to someone else (hold your horses people I get first crack at it) or it can sit in a "scaled down" tank of his stuff... Mike and he are debating us "babysitting" the few critters he wants to keep... which include another nem and clowns! (and oh, I don't have a good feeling about this idea...)
