LTA's grow quite large about 2 feet in diameter so a large tank will be necessary. AFA lifespan in captivity the average lifespan of all Anemones is very short but in the wild probably several hundred years, obviously if they can avoid butterflyfish or other predetors.

Some scientists theorize that anemones could possibly live forever due to the fact that they can regenerate at a cellular level. However as Cheeks69 said they would need to avoid predation. As for captivity I don't know the average life span. Personally speaking I have a 12" RBTA that has thrived for just over 5 years. She splits about every 6 months and I sell of the babies. She also has a mated pair of percs that help me take care of her, maybe that helps too. For the nay sayers she has spent her entire life under PC lighting.

Re: anemone life spand

My understanding has always been that anemones live long enough that we hobbyists should make provisions for them in our wills...

I too have raised BTA's under non-Metal Halide (VHO) lighting for years. MOST of the RBTA pics I post here were taken in my last 40 gallon tank, which was illuminated by 4x95 watt VHO. Occasionally, I'll post a pic that was taken in my 90 gallon, which was lit by 4x110 watt VHO, or 6x110 watt VHO, depending on when it was taken.

IMO, BTA's are the only anemones that do well under such lighting. I ended up with an LTA in my 90 (from another tank purchase) that did OK, but never really thrived, same with a condy.

Re: anemone life spand

Would agree with BoomerD that BTA's are probably the hardiest., and fortunately IMO one of the coolest.

Mine is in a 60" 100 Gallon with 360 watts of PC's
