| Tunicate | Re: New GBTA dying? Since the anenome is now gone and I'll wait and try to get another until after the first of the year, I'll post my info about my tank under the beginner section. Thanks everyone for your help! The pulsing xenias weren't doing quite as well as they normally do yesterday afternoon so I checked the ammonia to see if maybe that was the problem since the anenome was dying in the tank. It was close to 1 ppm if not higher. By the time I got home last night it has drastically gone down. This morning there's pretty much none. If the anenome had polluted my tank is this how it would have and if so, should I now be in the clear? Thanks! |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: New GBTA dying? The amonia is one thing to look at but how did you get it to go down? Did you do a water change? If not, I would. I would also run carbon which will remove a variety of contaminants.

| Over Achiever | Re: New GBTA dying? If your test readings are all zero then you should be in the clear. However, I'd recommend keeping an eye on the ammonia and nitrite daily for the next week. If you are going to add any fish do it slowly. Like one-two per month. |

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: New GBTA dying? don't worry about your xenia. I have it on both of my tanks and sometimes it's just "down" with no rhyme or reason. If the the ammonia goes down something else has to go up at least for a short period. First your nitrites will rise then soon there after your nitrates will rise. Then when you do a water change you will remove your nitrates and all the world becomes a better place Allen

| Over Achiever | Re: New GBTA dying? One thing you may want to consider if your xenia is poopy, is what are your iodide/iodate levels. Xenia require some of this ion in the water for good health. It usually comes with the salt mix, but could be low if you haven't been diligent about WC's or your super skimming and/or using activated carbon. ![]() |

| Tunicate | Re: New GBTA dying? We add iodine, ph buffer, and coral vite once a week; liquid calcium once a day; and stronium and molybdenum every four days. The liqued calcium once a day is a new thing. We had been trying to do the Kalk but it always sent our pH to 8.8 So we abandoned that and switched to liquid calcium. I put in the Carbon. How long should I leave it in? Will this not take out all the additives I just put in? Could I have possibly over dosed on iodine since I just did a water change as well? |

Are you testing regularly to see if you need the other supplements ? It's very easy to throw your tank off balance with these supplements so you have to be very careful !
