What Anemone?

I just let my LTA go. He now has a nice new home at Snellys.
Now I am stuck with a pair of very unhappy clowns. They have already been threatening me. I have mainly SPS corals. I want to get my clowns a new home. What type of anemone should I get. I want something that tends to stay put. I know that they all move, but Im sure that there are some that tend to move less. I also want an anemone that does not get HUGE. My clowns are Percs. Thanks for any suggestions.

How big and old is the system and what do you have for lighting?
I am pretty sure they all can get pretty big though so your clowns may be happier in a nice hammer or shroom.

Re: What Anemone?

My tank is 100 gallons. 16 inches deep. Its been cycled for about 7 months. I had my LTA for a few months. I would not stop growing it went from about 4 inches to almost 12 inches. I use 250 watt MH combined with t5s. How are the rose bulb anemones?

Re: What Anemone?

RBTA move a lot untill they find their perfect place, but Ive heard even in the longest time they will move for different reasons. I have RBTA for a week now and so far he kept on moving, still acclimating in my tank. I've had an LTA before and it doesnt move a lot. I think carpet stays in one place but they get too big.

My Haddoni carpet also moved alot during the acclimation process, it's really unavoidable. I agree with Lynn, Euphyllias will be a much better choice as a host since they cannot move.

I have never had any type of anenome that stayed put. They tend to move at will.

Re: What Anemone?

When I was doing some research I ran on to one that attached in the sand under a nearby rock. That seemed to offer some hope because it was always planted in the sand. I will look again and ask on some of the very large forums if anyone has had actual experience. Stay tuned.

Re: What Anemone?

It was probably a carpet since they tend to like the sand.
They will still move though and they get very very big.

Re: What Anemone?

Kind of old thread, but my recomendation if you really want to keep mostly SPS is to stay away from the anemones, especially to kind that attach to rock work.
They just take up so much room and you have to give a generous border around them to keep your sps from getting stung.
I'm not saying don't do it, as I have seen many nice sps tanks with anemones, but seems to be a bit of a headache, especially once you have colonies that are worth a few hundred bucks, or have a couple of years growth behind them.

No carpet! There are too many reasons; many experienced people say they should never be taken from the sea. I love them but------

Re: What Anemone?

Flower anemones plant their basal foot in the sand as well as tuba anemones, however, clowns host neither one of them. Do you want my flower anemone?
