Will my GBTA ever come out in the sun?

Last Sunday I picked up a small GBTA on a piece of LR from a member who was taking his tank down. I moved him to the 110 gallon and placed the rock in a lighted spot on the bottom of the tank. I suspected that he would find a place of his choosing and move there. I was right the next day he moved to the shade on the underside of the rock above and has been there ever since. Also, he has not inflated in the time I've had him.

I've left him alone and plan on continuing to do so. Should I be concerned? Is there anything that i can do to entice him to move or eat?

Re: Will my GBTA ever come out in the sun?

he is just stressed probably from the move, intense light can make it worse. Usually you might need to acclimate them to the lighting as well. When i moved tanks my rbta was under new light similar to what ur going through and slowly came out into them. It took about 3 weeks until he stayed on the top side of the rocks. He would inch out durring the day and go back at night and finally he stayed and now is doing very well

BTA's can and will move if they so desire. It could be acclimating itself to your lights and/or water. To be sure, test your water (temp, salinity, ph, etc). I would not disturb it.

Ditto
What condition was the Anemone in and how long was it in his tank ? Is it sticky and does it respond to touch ? If the Anemone was healthy then it's just acclimating to the tank and as Snelly mentioned it can take some time.

Re: Will my GBTA ever come out in the sun?

It seemed OK but I'm no expert. It was very small (about 1 1/4" diameter at the base) and had been in a 29 gallon for some time (not sure how long). I felt the best thing to do was nothing and still feel that way. I figured that it would come out when it felt like it. Currently the tentacles are withdrawn but the base appears inflated. I'll see if I can get a picture over the weekend without disturbing it.

Re: Will my GBTA ever come out in the sun?

Couldn't get a picture yet. My daughter took off to Atlanta for the weekend and took the camera with her. I can say that I did see a few stubs of tentacles shortly after feeding the tank today. They were completely withdrawn shortly thereafter. Color is a nice redish brown and the base seems inflated about the same amount as the diameter of the base. I think s/he is just being fussy. I may try blowing a few mysis it's way the next time I see any tentacles emerge. It has picked a tough location to get them to though.

Re: Will my GBTA ever come out in the sun?

Mine is making progress, I think, maybe, oh heck I don't know! Color looks great. Seems to be getting some filtered light. Extended several tentacles about 1/8" and caught and ate 1 mysis shrimp that I was able to blow at him. Will try to feed more later if tentacles are out at all.

It sure would be nice if some day he looked like a GBTA.

Re: Will my GBTA ever come out in the sun?

Success I think. Got him to eat 3 more mysis shrimp. LFS is out of silversides but I've got 2 pks on order with them. Looks like just a matter of time before this GBTA starts to feel at home.

Re: Will my GBTA ever come out in the sun?

No, don't have any. Tried a piece of flesh torn from a cocktail shrimp 2 days ago but he wouldn't take it. I may try that again tomorrow. Closest LFS is about 25 miles away so I don't go that often.

Got any bait and tackle stores near by that sell frozen spearing or other small bait fish?
