Re: please help !

Wow, tough starter question. First, do you already have the anemone? If nod do not buy it at least yet.
Anemones are very delicate animals with slow metabolism so they really need to go into a well established (1 year old) tank wth lots of LR and lots of light. Since this is your second post I am guessing you do not have either. What kind of anemone do you want? Some are much more difficult than others. We woud also need to know things like what kind of filtration are you running, what lights, what else is in the tank. and prpbably a lot more that do not come to mind at 7am..
Let us know a bit more about your setup and we will try to help you along with the anemone and other queststions.

ROFL!!!

Come on Lynn, it's already 7 am??? Jeez, you should have had TWO cups of coffee by now!

(hehehe)

Yeah, anemone's aren't an easy creature to start with. I learned that the hard way. Poor thing lived about 2 months and then just turned into a ball and shrivled up to nothing. It really takes a well established tank with lots of LR and VERY strong lighting. Don't forget to feed it once a week too!

Recently, I bought a white sebae and it was attached to a large piece of LR which also had two other small ones attached to it. I only wanted the one but the owner said if I buy the piece of LR, he would give me all three. So I payed him $50 and all three are doing really well. Mine eat little pieces of silverside and krill. The two clowns actually swim around and host with all three of them too.

I acclimated the LR and three anemone's for 3 hours using the drip method, placed the LR into my rock structure and they haven't moved from the spot so they seem to be happy. That was about two months ago that I bought them. So, while it's still a little early to declare it a success, so far so good.

Re: please help !

acclimation is VERY important for anems...i would suggest at least an hour time period, slowly adding your water to whatever bag you bring the anem home in. every 15 minutes add a cup of your water to the bag...after 15 minutes has elapsed, dump out a cup and add another cup of your water. this will ensure a slow change in salinity as well as temp.

Re: please help !

For about 3 months now I have used the "Drip" acclimation and love it. I made my own drip acclimator by using an air regulator valve for airline tubing. I start the siphon into my acclimation bucket and adjust the flow according to how long I need to acclimate.... 1 drip per second is the equivelant to a 2hr acclimation with a cup of water every 15 minutes. I drip faster for a 1hr and slower for 3hr (haven't had any 3hr acclimations yet). It cost me maybe $4.00 and works perfectly every time.

Re: please help !

Hey Mark,

I think Lynn outlined what they will need to open:

"Anemones are very delicate animals with slow metabolism so they really need to go into a well established (1 year old) tank wth lots of LR and lots of light."

If you don't have all 3 of these things, 1year, lots of LiveRock, and lots of light - I'd consider returning them. I'm not very experienced with these animals so listen to everyone else also, but with no live rock in your tank they will not survive long.

Re: please help !

What type of anemone(s) do you have?

Can you please post your tank specs. Lighting? filters? skimmer? powerheads? how much liverock? age of system? tank inhabitants?

Water parameters: temp? salinity? ph? nitrates? ammonia? nitrite?
