Question Identify this?

Hey Guys,

I just bought this beautiful anemone. I don't know what it is though. The guy at my LFS said it was a bubble tip, but I don't think so. It is white with bright purple tips. The tenticles are rather short and it doesn't have a tube body. I got him 3 days ago and set him on a piece of live rock. He hasn't moved. He extended his body almost flat against the rock. It is probably 6-7" round. I hope I described this well. One more question, how long does it usually take for the clownfish to find it and host it. Thanks in advance. I can't upload a pic sorry. Anyone interest I'll email it to ya.

Re: Identify this?

i know boomer is gonna yell at me, but from your desciption i would GUESS sebae, many times they are somewhat bleached and have the purple tips like that. Some clowns will not host in them so that could be why they are not hosting yet either, although sometimes it just takes time.
My cinnamon will host in anything within 5 minutes, its great.

Picture would help alot however!!

Re: Identify this?

I got the anemone 2 dys ago nd I got 2 false perculas yesterday. The clowns are not really moving about the tank yet. They stay in one corner towards the bottom of the tank. Is this normal? I tried to upload a pic. Hope this works!

Re: Identify this?

That is a Sebae and it's definitely bleached !
What type of lighting do you have and what are the dimensions of the tank ? Is it sticky to the touch and does it react when you touch it ?

Re: Identify this?

Could be a bleached sebae,

or it COULD be a condy...

Re: Identify this?

I have a 55g with live rock and live sand. I have a 260w compact flourescent.
(2 blue actinic, 1 6500, 1 10000). It was not sticky when I brought it home, but it is a little today. What do you mean by react when touched?

Re: Identify this?

What does it mean if it is bleached? Is this bad? Will my clownfish not host in it?

Re: Identify this?

yupp, definately going with sebae, and its a little bleached, but its ok. Typically this happens when its not kept in ideal light (too dim)
Clowns will still host in it even though bleached, it can take time

It means it's expelled it's zooxanthellae and yes it is bad, it could die !
AFA the Clowns if they will accept this anemone as a host, it's possible but will take time as Ocellaris Clowns are usually very finicky about which Anemone will host them.

Re: Identify this?

It is a good sign that it is getting sticky again, right?

Re: Identify this?

Is the lighting should be strong enough?

Re: Identify this?

Most hosting Anemones do best with metal halides particularly the Sebae but I did keep one under PC's successfully but this is uncommon , most will not survive long term. The fact that it's sticky is a good sign and I would feed it well until it recovers it's zooxanthellae.

Re: Identify this?

PC lighting is generally not enough for an anemone. Most of them require the stronger lighting of MH or at least T5.
How old is your system? They also require a very stable mature aquarium. With it being as bleached as it is the stability of the system is even more important.
