Id Him

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could identify this anemone. It has been passed down several times in my valley. It is at least 11 years old, but none of the previous owners knows much about it.

Re: Id Him

Tube anenome huh? THANKS! I have looked at different species on online stores and never found anything like him. I feed him mysis shrimp once a week along with something that the guy I bought him off of with was feeding him. Is it normal for anemones to live this long? I live at over 8,500 ft. above see level and have had some trouble with Oxygen content in my tank with other anenomes.

Re: Id Him

Looks like it could also be a species of rock anenome. Is it actually coming out of a tube, per se?

Re: Id Him

It is definately not a tube anemone. It does not have the right type of tentacles. I can't see enough detail to identify the species, but it appears to be of the group that are commonly called rock anemones. It is probably non-photosynthetic and so will require meaty feedings.

They can live longer than humans.

Re: Id Him

His foot is as half as wide as his body. When he is open, a "tube will lengthen anywhere from .25 to 1 inch to capture fallen fish food.

Re: Id Him

Cnidarian do not have the same oxygen requirments as our fishy friends. They can survive at lower oxygen saturation levels. Perhaps that is why your oxygen problem is not affecting your anemone. As far as the ID, you've got me?

Re: Id Him

If you knew where it came from, we might be able to identify it. Truthfully, with some anemones, especially the ones that are less common in the hobby, identification can be impossible to a species with only a picture to work with. I am not certain, but I suspect it is an Actinia species.
