Re: Bta

Our 2 big Clarkiis are hard on anemones but fortunately I have a large, healthy 5 year old purple/green BTA that is large enough to hold it's own under their constant buffeting and flopping around in it. I agree with the others that you should wait awhile before trying them in your new tank. The one I have now started out in our 12G Nano Cube 5 years ago as a tiny guy and has survived 2 tank upgrades and split off several times and supplied a few friends with anemones. BTAs are a good starter anemone as they are realitively hardy when compared to other types. Once you get ready for one, don't be suprised if they move around in your tank to find a spot they are happy with. They will stay put once that occurs. Also, sometimes they will shrink down to nothing for awhile and then return to their full size and vibrance in no time. That is normal behavior.

Re: Bta

IMO

the smallest size is the real size of the anonome...

no joke, my gets to be about the size of a quarter, and then some times the size of a soft ball....

its crazy...

My tank has been up for about 6 weeks.
Your tank is nowhere near ready for you to keep an Anemone IMHO. Your tank is still in bacterial flux and you already have added 7 fish. My advice is SLOW down let your bacteria adjust to the increase in bio-load. There's an old saying in this hobby "only bad things happen quickly". Hosting Anemones are some of the most difficult animals we keep so let your tank mature and stabilize first before adding them.

agreed,

while you might be able to keep one for a while, it will not be happy

Re: Bta

Thank you for all the advice. We have been going to the LFS weekly and taking their advice. I also took back the Maroon Clowns, I felt she was way too aggressive. The Anemone hid for at least a week, and came out yesterday. He is tenacleless, for the most part. Our water is still testing perfect, per the LFS and the tester we have at home. The other Anemone seems to be doing great, so I will just keep my fingers crossed that I can get it to eat, and he lives forever. I will slow down, on the buying of the fish, but I really feel it was that darn Maroon Clown. This hobby is just so addicting, as I am sure you all agree with. Have a great day, and again, thank you for the support.

Re: Bta

Maroon clowns are very agressive. Good call in returning yours. Beautiful fish but they should be added towards the end of your additions to help with the agression. Once you are nearly done stocking the tank you could consider adding one again. They are much more docile if added after the more timid fish.

Re: Bta

Welcome to RS Mary.. I agree with the others... You need to slow it way down or you may loose more livestock... The tank needs to build up beneficial bacteria.. As far as the pet stores... most pet store owners/workers may tell you your water is good and "ohhh yea you can buy any livestock you want. "just to make a sale.

Be very careful. I would buy the test kits and test the water yourself. If the reading are anything But 0. I wouldnt add any livestock. Nitrates should be less than 10.

Good luck and keep the questions coming
