Emergency-injured Bta

My BTA has been in hiding for the last 30 hours. He has now come out in the open and is injured. I think he was up against a sharp rock and with all the clown activity his body, just below the tenticles was abraded. Now that he is out I can see it well, a portionn of his tenticles are torn away and dangling. the rest of his tenticles are opening and he's on the move. The clowns are relentless. What should I do!

clowns are notorious for abusing their host. you have 2 choices. remove clowns or anemone.

Re: Emergency-injured Bta

I can see it much better now, it looks awful! I spotted a rather large Gorilla Crab in the area, perhaps he was making a meal of the BTA? I have a QT tank ready to go but the lighting is an old fluoresent bulb. Should I remove him to the QT and watch. Is it possible that it will heal?

Re: Emergency-injured Bta

its possible. depends on the anemone and the damage. sometimes they heal up, sometimes they cant overcome the damage. all you can do is try.

Re: Emergency-injured Bta

Should I excise the torn piece or leave it alone?

Re: Emergency-injured Bta

He is moving up a rock and my Monti cap is in his path. I have placed a piece of glass to keep him from touching the monti. Hopefully, he will get on the glass, making removal easier. Does anyone think it is more stress to place in QT tank with bad lighting? Should I just leave him in main tank and watch?

Re: Emergency-injured Bta

Sorry Scott, no answers here, anamones are so simple an organism that leaving it alone is probably best, it will need good lighting to carry on with, good luck Karma on the way. Steve

You'd have to ask Dr. Zoidberg on this one.

Re: Emergency-injured Bta

Don't ask me, I just kill them by looking at them! But, it looks to me like someone had a piece of him for lunch. Could he have had a piece of food and a fish/crab try to get it from him?

Karma for luck! - Sorry, Karma is blocked. I'll be back.

Re: Emergency-injured Bta

JFKJr I needed a good laugh. I've been worried sick about this little guy. I decided to remove it because the clowns were picking at the wound (could they have caused this?) looked like they were taking some meat! Perhaps they were just cleaning the wound? I was able to remove it with turkey baster blasts to the foot. It is now in my QT. If it looks half way decent in the morning I will go to the LFS and get a better light. For what it has been through, the rest of it looks pretty good, open and its mouth is closed. What a bummer!

Bluespot thanks for thanks for coming by, I know you have some troubles of your own. I hope you get your ALK/CA worked out.
