Lonely BTA?

Ok here is a question to all of those that have BTAs or know a bit about them.

Do they do better if they have a clownfish pair or even one hosting in them than if they are left alone?

Mine has been doing great although I do not think she liked having the light off last night for a bit more because she was still inflated but partially detached this morning like she was thinking about moving but when the lighs went on she settled down and relaxed again.

I will hopefully have some pictures of her soon.

I am wondering because I am trying to decide if I should wait and get a mated pair of false percs from the guy I am now getting my fish from or if I should just get two and hope they pair up. I do not want though to get 2 and then have 1 of them claim the anemone and then kill the other one. That is why I wanted a pair to be introduced into the tank and not 1 or 2 solos.

Input and feedback?

They will do well if parameters, light and flow is to their liking it'll have nothing to do with wether they're hosting or not.

It's best to get an already established pair then to try to pair them in your tank. I would opt for maybe the True Percula instead of the Ocellaris aka false percs as they are VERY picky about hosting anemones and seem to take much longer to accept BTA's as hosts if ever.

Re: Lonely BTA?

I know in my old tank my B&W Ocellaris took several months before he accepted my RBTA.

Re: Lonely BTA?

File this under Strange but True...
As odd as it sounds, I got my false percs to host in BTA's by taping a pic like this to the side of the tank:

The first time, I used a generic pic from the web. After that, I used that pic, taken in my tank...in every occasion, the oscellaris/perc has taken to one of the BTA's within a week...

BTW, not only do anemones do fine without clowns to be hosted in them, quite often, they do BETTER without clowns, depending on the size of the anemone, as well as the size and species of the clownfish. Maroons are notoriously hard on anemones, especially smaller ones.

Re: Lonely BTA?

Also I know of at least one person who's clowns killed their host anemone though that was a carpet not a bta. Give the right environment the anemone will do just fine without any clowns.
Also I have read many places about the picture trick. Odd as it sounds it does seem to work in many cases.
