BTA Splitting Question

My BTA is not splitting but I am curious about something. When (or if) it does will the Clown pair I am soon going to pairing her up with choose one or stay with both?

Would I get a new Clown pair for the other BTA or would the tank be better off with only 1 pair for both?

Re: BTA Splitting Question

Our main BTA has split several times over the last several years and the clowns usually seem to stay with the large, original one. One of the offspring anemonies is still near the original and although it is much smaller, I occassionaly notice one of the clowns make a quick "rub through" it. They know it's there, but seem to stay with the one they are more familiar with and have attached to. Since you are attempting to pair a new mate with your original fish, you will most likely have alot of bickering going on for a few days or longer so theres no telling who will go where. Most likely the original fish will defend her anemone and not let the new addition get anywhere near it for awhile.

They will usually stay with the mother or the larger Anemone.

I would not recommend adding another pair to the tank as clownfish can be extremely aggressive towards fish of the same genera and it's highly likely one of the pairs would be killed ! The mixing of clownfish should only be done in VERY large tanks and even then there's no guarantee it'll work.

Re: BTA Splitting Question

Thank you all for your responses. Yeah I would not put another pair of Clowns in my tank. One is enough. I am waiting for the LFS to have a mated pair at the moment.
