Smile anonome q's

If you turn the flow of the tank off, and opserve your anonome and the little figers are moveing, (not a lot but some are moveing every once and a while)
does that mean it is still alive?

CAn a anonome move its tentacals even after its dead?

(like when you die, and start twiching)

Re: anonome q's

Well, first let me ask, what makes you think your anemone might be dead? Did it all shrivel up? They do that sometimes, mine will expel all the water inside of it once in a while and then slowly draw new water back in.
Anyway to answer your question, yes anemones can move their "little fingers" they can even move around the tank if they are not happy where they are.

Re: anonome q's

Give it the smell test. If it smells like the ocean it is still alive.
If it stinks to high heaven, then it is not.
Post a pic of what it looks like now to make you think it is dead. The last pic it looked bleached but reasonably good overall. They generally decrease in health very slowly and sometimes take months to actually die. The short time span makes me think it is just in retreat after a large salanity change and a new system. They can get pretty bad looking and come back.
Try to protect it from being blown around. FFrankie (I think) put a small basket around his to keep it in place. For a different reason entirely, but it might still be a good idea. If there was purposville movement that woukd be a different story but blown around is different.
Sorry I think I spoke about things mentioned in several threads. LOL
Short story.
Post a pic
Do the smell test.

Just my opinion,

Re: anonome q's

Look in my Gallery, I just posted a pic with my clown and what a sebae anemone should look like. Mine was bleached when I first got it as well, patients and food will help it. Just let it be and hope.

Re: anonome q's

If it's moving on it's own (not being blown around) then it will use lots of energy and weakin it more. Feed it several times throughout the day (small feedings many times) for the first week. If it is eating (you can tell, it will take the food and move it toward it's mouth), it is a very good sign.

I don't know if they twitch when dead. Mine did not but it was not a seabae.

Your response to the smell test was on another thread as well.
Sorry, I just can't keep up with the different threads and was trying to help.

Re: anonome q's

I hate to tell you this but that is not good, if the anemone is bleached and will not eat I'm afraid it's on it's last leg. Keep an eye on it.

Re: anonome q's

that's good... if it can't stand powerheads, just keep your sump return going for oxygenation, and leave the powerheads off... you don't have anything that needs flow, particularly, right now, so yuo can afford to have them off for a while.

that's good that it took the food. you're going to have to put in a lot of time, but it's probably salvagable.

how old is your tank? generally, it's not recommended to keep an anemone until your tank has been up for a year with stable parameters. that might be a problem too. anemones are VERY sensitive creatures.

edit: i see you've had your tank up since may... that's definitely on the short side, as far as stability goes, and generally (and i'm not criticizing, this is just my experience, in all forms of aquaria) it's a good idea to work your way up the difficulty ladder. you've got hardy fish, and hardy coral, and you jumped a few rungs to an anemone, which is one of the harder creatures to keep.

also... how did you acclimate it to your tank? for anemones/inverts, a drip acclimation over several hours is recommended.
