Re: anonome q's

sorry, i didn't mean to come across as "i told you so" we all make newbie errors, it's just part of the game.

the anemone was only 9.00? where did you get it? that's awfully cheap for any species... usually they are 45 and up.

Re: anonome q's

Not likely to get I told you so on this site. We offer the best advice we have and you take what you can/want.
One thing I would like everyone to keep in mind though. It is not just the money. We are talking about a living creature. I know you have/are trying your best and I applaud that, but statements like that just kinda get to me. It seems that lots of people only value things that cost them lots of money. (This is really a general statement not directed at you. Like I said you are certainly trying etc.) Sorry, this is just kind of a pet peeve of mine.

Re: anonome q's

ya nine bucks.

i gave em a 10 and he game me a single.

if it would have stayed there, im sure it would have died anyway. He has meny other corals and stuff that he also wants a few bucks for.

he got it for 4$ gave it to me for 9,

good deal i think. reguardless weather my tank is "stable" enough or not, the condition it was liveing at in the store, had to be worse

id imagein that a combo of such a large change in salinaty and flow, are the major contribtor to the hardship of this seabe,

the tank it was in had almost no flow, there was another anonome to the right of it that had long tentacals sticking up in the water barely moveing

Re: anonome q's

yeah, you definitely showed some compassion in trying to give it a better home.

the upside of my question was that any anemone you get for 9.00 is not likely to last long. i know even small carpet anemones often go for a few hundred bucks.

keep us updated! i'd keep the flow off, and keep offering food regularly.

Re: anonome q's

do anonome's respond to lighting? like pylops and zoa's at night

this moring its folded over on it self, but when i shine the light on it, it opens quickly, i have a feeling that when the light comes on in a little it will open up and look better.

Re: anonome q's

http://www.carlosreef.com/AnemoneFAQ.pdf

"Anemones are shallow water, photosynthetic tropical inverts. They all require bright
lighting in order to thrive. A few species (E. quadricolor and S. haddoni) will thrive
under bright VHO fluorescent lighting, but for the most part all other species require very
bright lighting that includes metal halides."

Yours is heteractis malu, and requires VERY intense lighting to thrive.

Re: anonome q's

I tried to get a BTA too early and it met with an unfortunate demise.. so just be careful... sounds like you are doing good so far. I was told Silversides are the best for it.

Is your Clown taking to it?

I do not know where you guys are getting your anenomes when you are talking about price but the most expensive one I have seen around here are not even over a hundred dollars and I have seen some really big and amazing carpets here. I guess they are just cheaper in Tampa?
