| www.kids-with-cameras.org ![]() | Re: What is this? Adhaesive sea anemone Scientific name: Cryptodendrum adhaesivum Large flattened anemone, with very short (5 mm) and tightly packed tentacles, extremely sticky. The disc tentacles, slightly branching (often with glove like expansions) are clearly different from the edge tentacles (bulb shaped). Highyl variable colour, brown to green at the center, sometimes striped, usually different on the border (can be white, pink, purple, green, brown). Diameter 30 cm. Superficially similar to the other flattened anemones (Heterodactyla hemprichi, Stichodactyla gigantea, Stichodactyla haddoni. Stichodactyla mertensii). Distinctive charachters are the short and tightly packed tentacles, giving it a velvety look, ant the different colour and texture of the edge. Associated organisms Occasionally associated with the anemone fish Amphiprion clarkii. More often associated with shrimps like Thor amboinensis, found around the anemone, and Periclimenes brevicarpalis living in pairs on the anemone's disc. Habitat: Reef, Reef front Distribution: Indo-Pacific Cool Matt, I never heard of one until now. I searched for pictures and none of them look like that that i could find. But the description fits well. do you have a link to this species that you were able to identify it so quickly with?
