Vermetid snails are not bad.... but I am not convinced that is what you have. My vermetid's 'fishing line' does not retract when a fish swims past/near it. I am thinking you may have spaghetti worms as Witty suggested. I have lots of those in my tank too (they are not bad either). Spaghetti worms do retract quickly when disturbed.
