Check out the DIY section for skimmer plans. I don't remember seeing them for that skimmer but there are certainly examples of others you can check out.
You are absolutely correct about many people have plenum systems that run great. Just do your research and I am sure you will be fine.
The one thing I will mention is the lights. That is really not enough light for anemones. They need very strong light such as MH or a really good T5 set-up.
