A reef ready tank will be drilled so accomodate plumbing for overflow and return, flow goes down pipes into a sump where you have various filtration equipment; protein skimmer, carbon and/or phosphate reactor, return pump for the main tank. It sounds like that tank has a hang-on back filter maybe? The type of filter system and light system you use will depend on several factors, one of which is what you plan to keep in the tank.
